First Gentleman Eaves Launches "Celebrate North Carolina" Initiative

New website will highlight seasonal events

Raleigh - First Gentleman Robert Eaves, in partnership with the Office of the Governor and the Department of Cultural Resources, has launched a new initiative - Celebrate North Carolina - to focus on the people, culture and rich resources of our state.

For each season of the year, Celebrate North Carolina will explore one of the many gifts our state has to offer through public events, education and opportunities to engage and learn. A new website, www.celebrate.nc.gov, will provide information on events and links to further resources.

"The Governor and I are so proud of our state and its people. Celebrate North Carolina will allow us to highlight our diverse accomplishments," said First Gentleman Bob Eaves. "The arts, sciences, our history and even the sheer beauty of the landscape of North Carolina are all reasons for celebration."

Upcoming celebrations include:

  • Fall 2009: North Carolina Awards - North Carolinians highest civilian award recognizes significant contributions to the state and nation in the fields of fine arts, literature, public service, and science.
  • Winter 2010: Faces - A photographic portrait exhibition that will tour public libraries.
  • Spring 2010: Turning Points - A historical perspective on pivotal moments in our past.
  • Summer 2010: Play - Highlighting the contributions of sports and recreation.
