Fall 2009 - NC Awards

The North Carolina Award is the highest civilian honor the state can bestow. Created by the General Assembly in 1961 to recognize people who make significant contributions, often over a lifetime, in literature, public service, fine arts, and science. Recipients reflect the best in imagination, exploration, creativity, and humanitarian service. The North Carolina Award is presented annually by the Governor to express appreciation to these outstanding North Carolina citizens.
